OAIRP Listserv

A listserv is an Internet utility for efficiently sending e-mail messages to a group of people with interest in a particular topic. Listservs were designed to require minimal maintenance and administration: they are essentially "self-service" programs.

OAIRP has a listserv. It is available for use by anybody interested in institutional research in Ohio. The OAIRP listserv is intended for official use only. It is a good tool for quickly gathering information and opinions from institutional researchers around the state.

Here are the main elements of the most common listserv actions:

To subscribe to the OAIRP listserv:

Send an e-mail message to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU

With nothing in the subject field

With only this text in the body of the message:

SUB OHIOAIR

Notice that the address you send this message to is somewhat generic: it is used to administer several listservs, not just the one for OAIRP. Also notice that in the body of the message, the name of the OAIRP listserv is "OHIOAIR." The list name is not the same as the association's acronym. Ohio is spelled out and there is no "P" (the listserv was created before the association added the word "planning" to its name).

To send a message to the subscribers to the OHIOAIR listserv:

Send an e-mail message to: OHIOAIR@LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU

Include a descriptive title in the subject field

Include your question, comment, or other information in the body of the message

Notice that, in this case, the e-mail address is not generic: it includes "OHIOAIR," the name of OAIRP's listserv.

To take yourself off the OHIOAIR listserv:

Send an e-mail message to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.MUOHIO.EDU

With nothing in the subject field

With only this text in the body of the message:

SIGNOFF OHIOAIR

Messages sent to the OHIOAIR listserv are automatically archived; to get a list of archived messages:
